Sacha Inchi Oil

This oil is produced from the seeds of the Sacha Inchi plant, which is native to the Peruvian Amazon. Commonly known as the inca oil or inca peanut, however it is not related to the nut. The oil we use is cosmos certified organic and B-corp certified, which shows the company has met high social and environmental standards in their business practices.

Sacha inchi is only starting to become known around the world, however it has been used for thousands of years in Peru, dating back to the pre-inca era. The seeds of the plant were roasted and eaten along with using the oil from the seeds for different types of skin and hair care and remedies for illnesses.

The tree has significant benefits for the farmers and the rainforest, it grows rapidly and can reach up to 2m, it's a perennial crop and can help deforestation. It can be planted in areas of mass deforestation due to livestock production, whilst providing farmers with more beneficial options over illegal cocoa farming and corn.

What makes it special is that it contains one of the highest amounts of poly-unsaturated fats when compared to other seed and vegetable oils: 45-48% of Omega 3 and 32-37% Linoleic acid. Along with 9% oleic acid which are essential to deeply hydrate the skin and protect the skin's lipid barrier.

Along with the fatty acids in the oil it also contains plant sterols, high amounts of tocopherols which are types of vitamin E and carotenoids, these give the oil its beneficial anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They also help maintain skin elasticity, protect it from oxidative stress, limit transdermal water loss and strengthen the skin barrier. They also soften and soothe the skin, whilst helping to repair the skin and stop hyperpigmentation.
