Olive Squalane Oil
Squalene is naturally found in the skin's sebum, squalene is widely used in products in the beauty industry however this type is most commonly sourced from shark liver oil. It is also possible to get squalene from olive oil, so as we are a cruelty free brand we opted for this type. The squalene content of olive oil can vary, it has a range between 0.7-12g per kilogram of oil.
But our products contain squalane not squalene…So what's the difference?
Squalene oil is the ¨pure¨ form, but it easily becomes oxidised (unstable) which gives it a short half life and limits the time you can benefit from all its great properties. Squalane on the other hand is made from squalene, which is then hydrogenised to improve the stability of the oil allowing it to be safely used in products so you can enjoy all its amazing benefits for your skin.
It mimics your skin's natural sebum and helps restore the concentration of natural squalene content of your skin. It protects the skin barrier and limits transdermal water loss, its anti-inflammatory and full of antioxidants. It protects the skin from oxidative damage, promotes collagen, softens and soothes the skin whilst improving the skin's texture without leaving an oily residue. What's not to love?
